After you have installed your Stay Assemblies it is time to strain up your fence wire – these instructions provide the typical way to strain up Fence Wire.
If you have a smaller fence distance, and don’t want to invest Chain Strainers, then Permanent wire strainers are another option.
Straining with Traditional Chain Strainer:
- using a wire spinner – pay out your wire between the two Stay Assemblies, and then and tie off both ends at each Stay Assembly using an end knot or maxtensor joiner.
This will leave you with a slack fence wire hanging between the two Stay Assemblies - Repeat this for all fence wires required
- At one end of the fence, starting with your bottom wire, cut the slack wire, leaving 2-3m of fence wire hanging off the Stay Assembly.
- If using Maxtensor joiner, insert one Maxtensor onto the Tie off end.
- From the Tie off end (the shorter wire), attach the wire to the main strainer jaws ( using the cam lock that is attached to the handle), and squeeze strainer tight so that it grabs the wire. Ensure that you have at least of 50cm of wire protruding from the strainer jaw, to be used later for tying/joining.
- Then attach the chain to one of the strainer claws under the handle, and attach the other wire (the longer fence end) to the chain strainer jaws.
The strainer should then be attached to the fence – from there, walk the strainer jaws up the chain.
Do not overtighten ! - Join wire wires with a strainer knot or with the maxtensor wire joiner, that is already on the Tie Off end.
- Release the chain strainer, and knock the strainer off the fence wire.
