Choosing your Fence Posts

What are the best fence post for your needs?

Fence posts are exactly as the name suggests posts for a fence.

The type of fence you are planning to build will determine the type of post to use.  For example;  If you are building a fence to hold horses in, you may choose to use a larger more flexible post such as a PVC post or recycled plastic post.  If you are enclosing cattle you would be looking for a stronger more rigid post .  Such as hardwood or steel.

Another important factory effecting the type of posts to be used is the post spacing and the use of intermediate or XL posts.  Post spacing for a broad-acre type of fence with low stock pressure could be anywhere upto 12m.  For smaller acreage fencing applications with high varied stock pressure you could have your spacing as close as 2.4m.  This all depends on the application.

Steel posts have become increasingly popular over the past decade due to their ease of installation and longevity.

Steel Fence posts have been used in Australia for over a century, and have stood the test of time as a long lasting, post.

They are easy to drive in, can be easily transported and are fire resistant – superior to timber or concrete posts.

When installing steel fence posts, first run a sight wire between your Stay Assemblies, so that the fence line is straight. The posts then need to be space evenly apart – between 3 and 5 metres, depending upon your terrain. Drive them in using the Hello Fencing range of fence post drivers, or alternatively  for larger jobs, a petrol or pneumatic driven driver.

The Hello Fencing range of fence posts has 2 types of posts (StockPost and StockPostXL), and 2 types of coatings (Black and Galvanised).

Stockpost and Stockpost XL are designed for Australian conditions, with uniform end points to make driving easy, and an innovative line mark, to help you get your fence lined up. The ground mark is consistently positioned on each post to assist in aligning the height of your fence at ground level, while the centre mark is positioned as a guide for belly wires.

Stockpost XL

Are designed as an intermediate post to add extra strength to the fence – to be positioned in the fence line at every 4th or 5th post. They are longer (driven deeper into the ground) and heavier than the standard StockPost

Black StockPosts

Have a Bituminous Coating, that is designed to be a barrier between the steel post and the soil – reducing corrosion.

Galvanised StockPosts

Are dipped in Zinc to provide a superior galvanised coating.
