Like everything in life, planning and some thought ahead of time is vital for good fence design. Your main aim in terms of design, is to create longer runs of straight fencing, whilst also maximising your land use. The less corners and ends that you have, the less Strainer assemblies you will need – which can be a major expense of the fence.
Similarly, where you position your gates is also a very important decision, as each gate marks the end of the fence, and will need another Strainer Assembly. This is why most gates are positioned at the corner of a paddock – making use of the Corner Strainer Assembly.
Other aspects to take into consideration for good design are
- land contours
- erosion and soil acidity (accelerates rusting)
- fire risk – high tensile barbed wire is not recommended
- location – coastal (accelerates rusting) or otherwise
